A long Sunday evening, after way to much weekend tequila had be watching documentaries. Not just any docs, but ones related to food, the way our food is made, what is good, what is bad, how it is transported, GMO foods, processed foods etc.
I have always been somewhat of a food critic when it came down to health. I was brought up in a home where we ate colourful meals. Colourful meals meaning nothing that was monochromatic. While you ponder that thought, think about how brown or white your meals are. I learned to love green, leafy veggies and fresh foods opposed to those in boxes. I was coached to experiment in the kitchen and make my own healthy meals. I was vegan, I was vegetarian, I ate only chicken and fish as proteins etc. I have read a lot of books and know my ins and outs of food. I now live in a bigger center where fast food is right out my door and cooking seems horrible when you work evenings. I believe the term I am looking for is lazy. You are right, I am completely lazy.
I have a gluten and dairy intolerance. I ignore these health concerns way to much and am for sure poisoning my body with unnecessary means and not nourishing myself at all. This blog is created to keep me accountable for my actions and if anyone reads it, I hope they think twice before they purchase bread at your local super market which was probably a liquid they poured in a pan. Have you ever noticed how your bread never molds?! You should never eat anything that can sit on your counter for months without growing mold or going "bad".
Why do people find this an inconvenience? How has society turned from shopping at markets for fresh foods to trying to find the quickest meal for $5. People buy frozen foods soaked in high fructose corn syrup or are mostly oil. Did you know that your favorite topping for pie is an OIL product?! Totally gross. How can that be good for you. Have you ever dipped anything in ranch salad dressing? Have you put a huge pile of salad dressing on a plate, leave it out all night and then try to wash it off the next day? It is nearly impossible. I can not imagine what that does for your insides.
There is more adult acne now then ever before, more health issues, more allergies etc and never think why. Do you remember the saying "you are what you eat"? It obviously shows up in your skin, impacts your health. No one ever assumes it is that over processed meat product you just ate. Chances are it is a high contributor to why you feel "bad" after you eat.
These are all thoughts I think about, and things I observe. I sure felt a lot better when I never ate fast food and cooked all the time.
To the nitty gritty. This blog is solely dedicated to my health, and maybe yours. I will update on a daily basis with what I can. I will tell you what I am eating and what I am not eating. I've decided to cut out most meat products. I am still going to consume some fish and perhaps chicken or steak but I want this to be a mostly meat free experiment. I am not consuming gluten. I am commencing this on Tuesday. I need one more day of thinking!
Any feedback is wonderous!
